Safety Certificate

What is a Queensland Safety Certificate?

A Queensland Safety Certificate (commonly called a roadworthy certificate) confirms that a vehicle meets minimum safety standards at the time of inspection.

You may require a safety certificate when:

  • Selling a registered vehicle
  • Transferring registration ownership
  • Re-registering a vehicle
  • Registering certain used vehicles in Queensland

If you are unsure whether your vehicle requires a safety certificate, Powascope can help guide you through the process.

Mobile Safety Certificate Car Inspection FAQs

Do I need a safety certificate to sell my car in Queensland?

Yes, most registered vehicles require a valid safety certificate before being sold. It must be provided to the buyer.

How long is a safety certificate valid for?

For private sellers, it is valid for 2 months or 2,000km, whichever comes first.

What happens if my car fails inspection?

A failed certificate will be issued, and we will discuss all concerns with you. TIn Queensland, you  have 14 days to fix your car after a failed safety certificate (roadworthy) inspection to avoid paying for a full new inspection. The vehicle must be re-inspected within this period to verify repairs.
Missed Deadline: If you exceed 14 days, the inspection record automatically closes, and you will have to pay for a new, full inspection.

Can you inspect a car at the seller’s home or dealership?

Yes, inspections are carried out at the seller’s location, whether private or dealership.

Is a safety certificate a full mechanical inspection?

No, it only checks key safety related items as outlined by the Queensland Transport dept. It does not cover a full mechanical condition of the vehicle.

Do you service the Sunshine Coast for mobile safety certificate inspections?

Yes, services cover all Sunshine Coast suburbs including Maroochydore, Buderim, and Caloundra.

If you live in one of these surrounding suburbs in Sunshine Coast, we can come to you!
